2 hour practice session followed by a 1 hour race. myself, col, graham, stevebus and andy met on route and made the 2hour drive up the A5 to carrog isa near llagollen. we arrived to find an excellent mountainside track that flowed around and up the hillside giving some breathtaking views over the back of the mountain. after the 2hour morning session there was quite a bit of competition going on and colin seemed the favourite to take the win. nothing could stay with the ktm450 except another ktm450.(as steve put it)..and taking great pleasure in tooting his horn as he went past people..the track was fairly easy to ride but care needed to be taken on the slippy downhill sections and the numerous off cambered sections where over cooking it would be costly.(as i found out, cartwheeling my bike down a hill)..as we lined up for the start.colin took up a position on the outside with graham. stevebus and andy on the inside.with about 60 other bikes in between and me deciding to let the lunatics go and pick them off one by one as the race went on..(that was the plan anyway).....everybody dived into the first turn...there were about 50 bikes in front of me and 20 behind, who did'nt really want to attack..so i was just looking to pick my way through the mayhem of the first lap..the others were gone....riding for the win.....their gamble of going full out at the start had paid off and they were somewhere up in the top 25 bikes. the pack started to spread out and i seemed to be moving steadily up the field, the track was drying and giving lots more grip and i settled into a steady rythm and feeling quite smug as i barged my way around the track passing people on the way. 2 minor incidents where i parted company with the machinery reminded me that caution was needed, as colin was to find out on his 3rd lap. he was certainly fast.but could he go that fast for 1 hour?. that was the question i was asking myself......it was a gamble that did'nt pay off.(this time)..i passed the chequered flag on my fourth lap of the 5.5mile track and rode back to the cars to find col laying on the floor with a towel over his head making daisy chains(and changed into his clothes)moaning about blue smoke and complaining of dehydration and exhaustion and making up allsorts of excuses..."you mean you did'nt finish" i asked with a big smile on my face..."no" he replied with a tear in his eye...i could see he was'nt feeling very well and i told him that he'd done his best......you can't do anymore than that... :D excellent day....it's got to be another 5 stars...graham was fast this time, closing the gap on stevebus and andy. col was very fast but failed to finish...the only thing that would have made the day better would have been to passed him on the track, but that day is coming ever closer.(can't put a date on it yet though).very proffesional organistaion that put on the event. once again being endorced by ennduro champ fast eddy making a show for the main sunday event. round 6 will be in a few weeks time when colin gets another chance to get his revenge, i'll be there to ruin his day again ;) along with the others no doubt.
